Cubs -- Runner's Up at Bruno's Battle of the Bat

Cubs come in second vs Granger Irish.  Cubs offensive attack dissappeared.  Cubs only had 5 hits combined with base running mistakes to come up way short vs. the Grainger Irish.
Pitching was off after a day in the sun as well.  Hackworth gave up 5 runs on 2 hits and 1 error.  Sowers came in to give up 6 runs on 7 hits in the shut out loss.  More growing and learning to do for all. 

Up next, two weeks of league games before they head to the Cincy Flames tournament on June 7th.

Bruno's Battle of the Bat Tourney Recap

Game 1 -- Cubs vs Niles Vikings --  Cubs win 14 - 3.  Bats were alive in the morning.  Cubs had 14 runs on 8 hits, 2 lob with 4 errors.  Hackworth hits his 2nd homerun of the season.  Pitching was lead by Aaron Chao giving up 1 run in 3 innings of work to shut the Vikings down.

Game 2  -- Cubs vs Flames Baseball (Grand Rapids).   -- Cubs win 8 - 7 in a close battle.
Cubs come alive in the fourth inning putting up 5 runs to come back and win .  Bradtmiller pitches 3 innings to shut the Flames down.  Zac only gives up 2 runs on 2 hits to stop the surge. 

Game 3 -- Cubs vs West Michigan Blast   ---  Cubs win 10 - 2 in five innings.
Bats come alive again to put up 10 runs on 12 hits in five innings.  Hackworth, Chao, and Ball led the offensive attach with 3, 2, 2 hits each.  Hackworth pitched 3 shut out innings to start with Sowers closing out the game with 4 strikeouts, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. 

Game 4 --  Cubs vs Huntertown Lions   ---  Cubs win 6 - 3 in five innings. 
Cubs fought hard putting up an offensive attack led by Ball, Hackworth, Brubaker and Brege all with 2 hits each.  Chao pitched 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and Brandtmiller closes out the game giving up 1 run on 1 hit.

Cubs on to the Championship vs Grainger Irish.

Indy RBI Showdown -- 3rd Place Finish

Good game between the Indiana Blazers and FW Cubs Blue.  Blazers took the win 8 - 2 on Sunday. 
Slow start for Hackworth giving up 8 runs on 8 hits, 4 strikeouts, 3 walks, 2 Lob, on two errors in six innings.
Offensively the Cubs Blue had 2 runs, on 3 hits, 4 Lob, and 1 error.  Bats were swinging but they again hit the ball right at the defense. 

Back to league play this week to prepare for the next tourney in two weeks in Lakeville, IN.

INDY RBI SHOWDOWN -- GAME 3

FW Cubs Blue WIN 16-0 against the Indiana Hornets. Chao and Bradtmiller pitched 5 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts, 2 hits, 3 walks, 2 errors and 6 Lob. Offensively, Cubs Blue were pounding the ball with 16 runs, on 15 hits, 2 errors and 6 Lob. Bussard and Brege led the way with 3 hits. Hackworth, Chao, Jordan, Lashure, and Ball rounded out the offensive attack with 2 hits each. Game 4 will be a rematch of game 1 against the Indiana Blazers. Should be a good one. Game time 1:30pm Sunday.

INDY RBI Showdown - Game 2

FW Cubs Blue WIN in 5 with Strong outing by Brubaker.  FW Cubs Blue win 14 - 4 over the Hurricane Green.  Brubaker pitched a strong five innings giving up 4 runs with 11 strikeouts, 4 hits, 3 Lob and 3 walks.
Offensively FW Cubs Blue had 14 runs on 3 hits with 9 errors and 5 Lob.  Bats were hot this game. 

First bracket game is tonight at 7:30pm with the Indiana Hornets.  Keep it going FW Cubs 11 Blue.

Indy RBI Showdown

FW Cubs Blue vs. Indiana Blazers in the first game.  Lost 4 - 0.  Blazers Murphy had 5 strikeouts, on 2 hits with 3 Lob.  Bats were swinging but going right to the infielders. 
Sowers, Chao combined for 4 runs on 4 hits with 5 Lob in six innings.  Good hard fought game.

Next game at 1:30pm against the Hurrincanes Green.

League Game - FW Cubs Red vs. FW Cubs Blue

FW Cubs Blue win today in an 8 - 4 decision.  FW Cubs Blue offensively had 8 Runs on 10 hits, 8 lob and 1 reaching on error.  Hackworth and Chao lead the way with 3 and 2 hits a piece.  5 others helped to drive in the runs with 1 hit each.  Pitching got a work out today with Jordan, Hughes, Sowers, and Brege combining to give up 4 runs on 9 hits with 10 lob and 1 reaching on error.  They had 5 stikeouts and 5 walks in 5 innings combined.

Looking forward to the upcoming Indianapolis tournament this weekend.  Stay tuned.
